Why Have Live Interior Plants? |
||
Most people understand that plants require and absorb carbon dioxide from the air as part of the photosynthetic process, with the release of oxygen as the final stage. This is reason enough for wanting plenty of plants around. But NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has found further proof of the health benefits of interior foliage. Recently NASA studies indicated that most tropical plants actively absorb a substantial amount of contaminants which occur naturally within the confines of homes or offices. The scientists at NASA have found that tropical plants are so efficient at absorbing contaminants in the air that they will be incorporated into the life support systems aboard future space stations. Their studies indicate that placement of one live plant per 100 square feet can substantially reduce the amount of airborne contaminants within that space. The studies have proven that common tropical plants
successfully absorb and biodegrade many commonly found pollutants such
as Formaldehyde, Trichloroethylene, and Benzene. These pollutants have
been associated with asthma, headaches, nausea, and cancer. Bringing nature indoors does so much more than just look nice. They create a relaxing, enjoyable and healthy environment for us to live in. |
